Domain Names If you are reading this now, you probably know what a domain name is. But just in case... it's that thing you type after the www. when you use your browser. It's the name of a web site. Well, not exactly, but we'll look at that more closely below. And you're most likely reading this page because you want your own domain name. But just in case... here are the top three reasons you need to register your own domain name: Credibility, credibility, and credibility! Sure, you can put up a web page on some free or cheap service and use their domain name, just like so many newbies do. But try putting that on a business card, or into a search engine submission. Chances are, the response you get is not the one you want. And lets not even talk about those rediculously long affiliate URLs. Plain and simple, if you want people (and search engines) to pay attention, you need a domain name that reflects your pride in your business. And it helps if your domain name reflects the nature of your business, too. And how about your e-mail address? Having some free HooYa e-mail address that doesn't even match your business site's domain name does not give the impression that you're here to stay. Don't get confused between a domain name and a web site. You do not have to run your own web site to have your own domain name! Have your domain supplier redirect hits to www.yourdomain.com to any web site you like (including an affiliate referral site), and redirect email to anybody@yourdomain.com to your free email account. Now you're ready to get those business cards (which, by the way, you can find on our Print Media page)! Of course, there are many other reasons to register your own domain name. You can find those listed on any site selling domain names, so let's not waste any more time.... On to the vendors!
